Happy Valentine's Day! Of all the Valentine's Day quotes, this one by Martin Luther King, Jr. has to be one of our favorites: “I have decided to stick to love; hate is too great a burden to bear”.
Friends, family, significant others, and even your office romance: it's time to celebrate all of them on this day. And for that, here are four drinks that you can easily prepare at home!
Silky latte to celebrate with family
Barista-grade coffee is easier to make at home than you think. Take a look at our 10 Barista tips to make better coffee at home before you try this recipe, and get ready to make a delicious cup of coffee that will receive praise for days.
2 ounces espresso (2 espresso shots)
4 ounces fresh whole milk
You will need an espresso machine to make the espresso. Pull two shots of espresso into a mug.
Pour milk into a pitcher, then hold the steaming wand of your espresso machine just below the surface of the milk. Wait until the milk has doubled in size and its texture resembles wet paint. Tap the pitcher on the counter or swirl it to eliminate any large bubbles. Tilt your cup 45 degrees, then slowly pour the milk into the center of the espresso.
Spiced black tea to enjoy some 'me time'
Valentine's Day is a great occasion to relax and enjoy your own company. Read, write, watch a film, or listen to some music while you sip on this orange-spiced tea.
2 slices fresh orange
2 cinnamon sticks split into halves
4 cardamom pods, crushed
1 cup water
1 teaspoon agave syrup
2 teaspoons black tea leaves
Boil the water, preferably in the Barvivo Tea Kettle, and add the spices and orange slices. Let infuse for 5 minutes. Add the tea, remove the pot from the heat and let it brew for 3-4 minutes. Swirl in the agave syrup, strain, and serve. Relax, sip, and enjoy.
Sauvignon Blanc for a toast with friends
At this point in time, celebrating Valentine's Day with friends is even more common than doing so with a lover. To make this occasion special, an apéritif with Sauvignon Blanc, goat cheese, oysters, and cold cuts of meat, just hits the nail on the head. This has to be one of the best Valentine's Day ideas for a get-together with your friends.
Like every other white wine, Sauvignon Blanc should be served chilled. The perfect temperature range is between 50 and 55 ºF. For this, just keep your bottle of wine in the refrigerator for two hours or, alternatively, put it in an ice-water bath for 30 minutes.
Martini to celebrate love and passion
There are many Valentine's Day cocktails, but our choice today is Martini. Only... we're adding an aphrodisiac ingredient (pistachio) to spice things up. It's a departure from the original recipe, sure, but on a day like this, it's worth a try. Here's the recipe:
2 ½ ounces vodka
½ ounce dry vermouth
½ ounce pistachio liqueur
Garnish: 2-3 pistachio nuts or 3 speared olives
Add the vodka, vermouth, pistachio liqueur, and ice to your cocktail shaker and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled Martini glass and garnish with pistachio nuts or olives.
